Beautiful Balms gives you information on natural ingredients used in Beautiful Balms products.
Beautiful Balms offers a unique range of carefully crafted creams, lotions, oil blends and aqua flower essences all containing plant ingredients sourced from the beautiful lands around us, and sometimes from further afield.
Plants are traditionally used by herbalists for centuries; their healing properties are well documented, tried and tested. Most plants have not just one, but several active constituents working together synergestically. It is not surprising then that it has been discovered that plants have an energy field that is similar to the magnetic field surrounding the human body. Thus it is that plants are natural, organic material, living in harmony with ourselves. Plants freely offer us their gifts; by using them we participate in an ecological cycle that is designed to serve the wholeness of life.

To be at one with the plants is to know them, to recognise them from sight, to know their names and the folklore and stories interwoven about them, to search for them in the places they commonly grow, and to understand their many, varied and interlinking healing properties. Meeting with the plants in this way enables a deeper, more satisfactory healing rapport. So when we use a face cream, and we have the ancient knowledge of the benefits of its ingredients, we become participants in an interconnected, times long past, planetary process.
Calendula officinalis, the Common Marigold, is used extensively in Beautiful Balms products; in Marigold & Rose Allover Body Lotion, Grapefruit Deodorant Balm, Chamomile & Lavender Deodorant Balm, Rose Everyday Face Cream, Frankincense Everyday Hand Cream, to name but a few of the balms available at Beautiful Balms. Because of Calendula's wide spectrum of benefits for the skin, it is an ideal ingredient for body and face creams. Calednula has been used in the making of the Cream and Lotion range almost as a matter of routine. If a herb heals the skin then it follows that it beautifies the skin in the process. Marigold has long been in use as a garden flower to be used both in cookery and as a medicine. The petals of its bright yellow flowers open as the sun rises and close at its setting. It was and is, important that the petals are dried so as to retain the yellow colour. Then it was used in broth as a comforter and strengthener of the heart and spirits. It is also one of the best herbs for treating local skin problems. Marigold can be used safely wherever there is an inflamation on the skin, whether from infection or physical damage. It can help with wounds, even slow healing wounds, skin ulcers, varicose veins, insect stings, minor burns and scalds. Moreover it is anti fungal, hence its inclusion in the Foot Balm.
Another well known herb with wide usage in the Beautiful Balms collection is the popular lavender, lavandula officinalis, perhaps the best known of the pure, essential oils. It is employed in the Creams & Lotion range with balms such as Lavender & Peppermint foot Balm, Propolis Calming Skin Balm, Melissa Healing Balm, and in the Oil Blends of Peppermint & Rosemary Head Balm and Bergamot Head Balm. Lavender is indigenous to countries bordering the western half of the Mediterranean but is now cultivated further afield, in England and even Norway and Australia. Lavender has been used for hundreds of years and could well have been the Spikenard referred to in the Bible. It was also the perfume used by the Romans for bathing; lavender comes from the Latin, lavare, to wash. Lavender has a long list of therapeutic uses for the skin. It is cooling, soothing, moisturising, anti-inflamatory, anti-bacterial,antiseptic and healing at a cellular level so therefore is a rejuvenator. Lavender will help with burns, bites, abscesses, acne, blisters, bruises, cuts and eczema.
Because of lavender's balancing properties, lavender is suitable for all skin types; dry, normal, oily. It is also safe, so can work to calm and sooth sensitive skin. Moreover, lavender has a balancing effect on the nervous system and it has long been known that it can alleviate headaches and insomnia. Lavender, therefore, is a valuable ingredient in the Head Balms where it will also help with nausea and stiff muscles.
